First Step

Dr John Sherman is the most caring, engaging, respectful Doctor I have ever been to. His faith in me, his understanding & the empathy he has showed me for 15 years have enabled me to turn my life around. From mental health to addiction specialists, I cannot speak highly enough about the staff & the services they provide.

I cannot tell you how good it is to know what first step has done for me I'm a living example of somebody that has walked away from putting drugs as the answer for everything to fix the trauma of my life to now being on medication and constant care for my mental health by being transparent and authentic to the wonderful GP Dr Peter Wright and my RN Lisa. They have helped me take the first step and will always help me take a first step away from my own coping mechanisms to the correct way of dealing with trauma, addiction and becoming a better person in every part of my life that I never could do on my own.

So many positive things to say about First Step. The staff are exceptional and although are just doing their jobs, are quite literally saving lives. By way of listening, hearing what matters to people and assisting accordingly to the best of their ability, I can definitely say the work that is done relieves the pain that many endure. From the girls at reception all the way through to every team first step encompasses, Drs, mh staff, legal and so on, there is a level of care and ethical professionalism that I have never encountered at any other service. Dr Sherman has been a Godsend for many of his patients, knowing some for over 20yrs, spanning across practicess, following him from Footscray to St.Kikda really speaks volumes as to what a support the Dr is. His quality of care is second to none. Knowing Dr Sherman is to appreciate his care and consideration for his paitients, who quite literally depend on him for life saving treatment. Of various kinds. There will never be another Dr that could ever replace the Dr Sherman. Thank you for everything. First Step as a service has undeniably changed lives and saved lives and is an institution that needs to be funded and protected for the vulnerable community it to graciously serves. You are deeply appreciated.
